Bolder Agency supported the promotion and visibility of the celebration of World Metrology Day and the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Meter Convention as part of the “Metrology Days 2025” conference.

The Convention, signed on May 20, 1875, laid the foundation for a unified global system of measurement units, significantly facilitating scientific and technical collaboration, as well as trade between nations and states.

Metrology plays a crucial role in everyday life, although it often goes unnoticed. Accurate and reliable measurements allow for the definition of quality and safety standards, stimulate innovation, drive technological progress, and contribute to science and education. Reliable measurements also support better resource management, increased energy efficiency, and environmental protection—key goals of sustainable development. Furthermore, standardized measurements enable fair trade and global economic cooperation, creating the conditions for more stable economic growth.

Today, metrology faces new challenges and opportunities, with digitalization, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity emerging as key areas that will shape the future of measurement.

World Metrology Day holds the designation of UNESCO international day, underscoring the value of metrology as a foundation for peace and cooperation among nations, science, the economy, and sustainable development.

It was a pleasure to participate in the closing ceremony of the first Swiss-Croatian Cooperation Programme, marking the successful conclusion of 11 impactful projects through which significant progress in improving local infrastructure and supporting economic development, especially in the region of Gorski Kotar has been achieved. From enhancing water supply systems to strengthening social and environmental cohesion, the Swiss-Croatian cooperation program in the first Swiss contribution fulfilled both goals: reducing economic and social inequalities within the European Union and strengthening bilateral cooperation with the Swiss Confederation.

During the closing event, representatives of the Swiss Confederation, Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, Croatian Waters and local self-government gathered at Delnice City Hall for a press conference and later visited various sites of the upgraded wastewater management systems in Delnice, Fužine, and Brod Moravice, projects co-financed with First Swiss-Croatian cooperation program funds.

The event was attended by all key partners of the project, Urs Hammer, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to the Republic of Croatia, Kristina Bilić, State Secretary in the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds, Zoran Đuroković, General Director of Croatian Waters, Katarina Mihelčić, the mayor of Delnice, David Bregovac the mayor of Fužine, and Mario Šutej, the mayor of Brod Moravice. Agency Bolder had the honor of moderating the event and coordinating the media representatives.

The third of the four phases of the implementation of the ITS project – ‘Introduction of intelligent transport systems in the functional area of the city of Split’ – will soon end. By the end of 2025, Split will receive one of the most modern intelligent transport systems in Europe, which will reduce traffic congestion and increase safety and flow – where the priority will be the passage of city transport vehicles and emergency services. It will be fully integrated into the city’s urban mobility project, which includes, for example, increasing the quality of public city transport, improving the public bicycle system, solving parking problems by building many garages, and expanding pedestrian zones. This was emphasized at the press conference, in the organization of which Bolder also took part. Our goal was the introductory speech by the mayor of Split city and representatives of Contractors – KING ICT d.o.o. and Ericsson Nikola Tesla d.d. keep it as short as possible to leave the journalists enough time for questions and clarifications.

That’s how they learned that the traffic lights will adapt to the expected traffic, so the configuration, for example, will be different at night compared to the afternoon hours, and in the future traffic will automatically adapt to crowds and other traffic parameters. The project is worth almost 12 million euros and was co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund.

In Zagreb, on October 1 and 2, the Association of Cities organized the Urban Forum: productive, green and fair urban development, where it was discussed what the green transformation of cities offers and how to achieve economic, social and ecological sustainability of cities.

Agency Bolder was hired for media relations. At the forum, it was pointed out that the green transformation of cities brings the adaptation of urban areas to a more sustainable way of life, and this is a key topic for many local authorities. The goal of such a transformation of cities is to reduce the negative impact of cities on the environment, create a healthier urban environment and strengthen long-term resistance to climate change. Excellent examples of the cities of Novska, Dubrovnik and others were highlighted at the conference.

In addition to the good examples of cities that use artificial intelligence in the digitalization of cities, building the infrastructure necessary for the development of sustainable cities and uniform integrated urban development, it was also discussed what the role of cities is in the green transition and increasing resistance to the effects of climate change, and what can be done.

The goal is to have as many productive cities as possible that enable efficient use of resources, innovation and provide the infrastructure support needed for long-term development. Therefore, it is logical that the construction of productive cities is essential for stimulating economic growth, creating new jobs and improving the quality of life.

In May, an extremely important conference about demining was held in the Republic of Croatia. Namely, The Ministry of The Interior in Gospić presented the project “Croatian safe steps CROSS” with a total value of 52.2 million euros. The aim of this project is to demine a total of 3,451.5 ha of forests and forest land from mines and explosive devices and unexploded ordnance in the areas of Ličko-senjska, Karlovacka, Sisacko-moslavacka, Splisko-dalmatinska and Šibensko-kninska county.

The implementation of the project has numerous benefits for the local population and the general public, from the fact that the mine-suspected area will be significantly reduced, the safety of citizens and tourists will be improved, and the health and life of people will be protected as well as the environment, while property will be preserved.

At the presentation of the project, the Vice-President of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Minister of the Interior, Davor Božinović, pointed out that the Republic of Croatia has been demining for the past 30 years, and in the next two years, Croatia will be completely demined.

For the complete demining of the rest areas, approximately 10,000 explosive remnants of war, mined and unexploded military assets are needed to be deactivated.

This news is worthy of every attention, I would say breaking news for a country that has been demining its territory for 30 years and with so many victims. Namely, in Croatia 610 people were injured by mines, 207 of them fatally, and 40 pyrotechnicians lost their lives performing demining tasks. Such significant news is no longer so interesting to the media, but we are glad that Bolder took part in preparing and organizing this event.

Any topic can be interesting to media

Recently I had an excellent opportunity to collaborate with The Croatian Metrology Society on the celebration of the World Metrology Day. A seemingly boring topic turned out to be a source of extremely interesting information. Namely, every time we buy a kilogram of apples, use the GPS in our car to navigate, take a pill, enter a building, or run a marathon, we should think about the metrologist who made it possible. Measurements are an extremely important part of our daily lives and without measurements there would be no industrial production, trade, development of new products, sports competitions, protection of people’s health and safety, and thus no protection of the environment.

The Croatian Metrology Society marked the International Day of Metrology with appropriate lectures on metrology in the fight against climate change and the establishment of a sustainable global economy and environment. Thus, in our communication materials, we highlighted fascinating facts such as:
– The World Meteorological Organization made a study in 2022 according to which climate and weather disasters claim 115 lives a day and cost 220 million dollars
– 140 liters of water are needed to produce 125 ml of coffee
– When it comes to the hotel’s water footprint, water consumption in showers and toilets, food preparation and washing clothes contributes as much as 81 percent to the total water consumption.

The media coverage of the event was excellent, which contributed to the fact that starting this year, UNESCO officially accepted the International Day of Metrology on May 20 as its international day.

Ruđer Bošković Institute, Department of Molecular Medicine, Bioanalytics Laboratory, with Bolder’s communication help, successfully presented to the public the results of “Qualitative and quantitative protein analysis project” in which a new method with an emphasis on clinical application was developed.

The "Qua/Qua Protein" project enables the identification and quantification of proteins in single analysis, which enables acceleration and more accurate results in a series of control and diagnostic tests related to the analysis of proteins and amino acids. The project thus resulted in numerous practical applications for the improvement of primarily diagnostics, than pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, bioanalytics and the food industry.

Bolder's task was to provide communication support for the initial conference on the project, the press conference for the presentation of the special mass spectrometer device and the visit of foreign scientists, and the final event. In 18 months this project achieved a total of 47 media announcements in leading national and local media. The project was largely financed by the European Union. Namely, the total value of the project was 1.1 million euros, and 900,000 euros was secured from the European Fund for Regional Development.

Moderating the three-day conference of the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets was a big challenge. It was extremely professional theme that included the presentation of the Physical Planning Information System (ISPU), news related to legislative regulations, physical plans of the new generation, the possibilities of digital connection and data exchange, construction digitalization, etc. The participants of the conference were experts in this field, very knowledgeable about the issue so that the room for error was reduced to a minimum.

Excellent preparation, practice of public speaking, acceptance of criticism and readiness for unforeseen situations were crucial for success. The panel discussion recorded great interest, as excellent speakers took part – Dunja Magaš, State Secretary in the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets, Matija Posavec, Governor of Međimurje County, Nina Dražin Lovrec, President of The Croatian Chamber of Civil Engineers, Tomislav Petrinec, Director of the Directorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and Nikola Modrušan, State Secretary Deputy at Central state office for developing of digital Society.

The arrival of PR experts to meetings with ready-made offers and copy paste solutions, according to principle: if it works for other clients, why shouldn’t it work for you, is a thing of the past. In such meetings, it immediately becomes apparent that the PR experts did not prepare well, did not identify possible problems the client is facing, and did not examine how these problems and challenges affect the client’s business before proposing a solution.

We should never propose for solutions until we have first asked enough questions to develop strong needs for our service. This is what Neil Rackham teaches us in his excellent book “SPIN Methodology”. This book is based on research and analysis of thousands of sales interactions.

In his research, he emphasizes that we mustn’t talk about solutions too soon. We ask the questions, not the client. The goal is to find out as much as possible about the client’s needs before offering solutions.

But what is also important is the regular evaluation of our meetings with clients, in which we honestly answer whether we have achieved the set goals, what we would change during the conversation, what we have learned and how we can use it in future conversations with potential clients. Since applying this formula, I have increased my effectiveness and built long-lasting partnerships.

Three years ago, I opened my agency, named Bolder. Clients appreciate my work, because everything increases – the number of successful projects, clients and great business collaborations. The clients are long-term, those with whom I started my entrepreneurial adventure, are still my clients. But every day isn’t easy, without challenges and difficulties. It’s simple, but not easy! I learned that if I stay in a fixed mindset and my comfort zone for just a few months, I quickly lose connection to new jobs, current client’s needs, and requests. A fixed mindset means I do not accept challenges, do not stand criticism, do not learn from my mistakes, and generally do not put enough effort into success. Three years ago, I decided that my goals would be a little bigger every year, and I also would be a little better – more self-aware, persistent, business prudent.

Therefore, three weeks ago I proposed to a new client shooting and editing the films about their PR activities for their social networks. The client trusted me, approved the filming of five films that in less than three weeks had more than 60,000 views, numerous positive comments and generally an incredible increase of followers on social networks. I like this development mindset. It helps me achieve greater success, I am not afraid of failure and challenges, and I continuously create opportunities for learning and growth that clients appreciate and reward.
